Presentation on LCI Foundation

LCIF Coordinator for District 2-S3, Lion Sara Coots, was our guest speaker at our 20 August club meeting.  She presented an overview of the LCI Foundation and how Lions around the world provide financial support that is then available to support humanitarian needs worldwide.

Lion Sara reported that Lions clubs in constitutional area 1, the U.S., received grants from the LCI Foundation of over $11M last year.   A large part of this went to support Lions service projects in Texas.

Thanks to the leadership of our Council Chair, Dr. Kathy Summers, Texas Lions have been awarded a Statewide Major Catastrophe Grant from LCIF for $100,000. This grant is designated to support flood disaster relief efforts in three impacted districts, including our own District 2-S3.

In our district 2-S3, LCIF has provided a $15K emergency grant as initially requested by our district for PODS to be acquired to store relief supplies in the Liberty Hills, Cedar Park, and Georgetown areas.

Our district plans to apply for a matching funds grant from LCIF for relief efforts in our district only; funds raised in our district would be matched by LCIF.  The goal is to raise $50K in the district that LCIF would match for a total of $100K.  Lion Sara reported that more than half the goal has been raised.   She is asking that clubs make their donations by mid September so she can submit the grant application by the beginning of October.  Checks should be made to

Lion Sara noted that donations can be made for specific causes supported by LCIF.

Funds donated for a specific cause are only used to support grants for that cause.

Lion Sara encouraged our club to apply for grants from LCIF to enable or expand our service projects.
