Donation to Support the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Project
Our club has donated funds ($515) for building 2 beds in support of the Council of Governors project with Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization. This is to help with relief efforts after recent flooding in the hill country. The Texas Lions (including multiple districts and councils) are supporting Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) by building hundreds of brand-new bunk and twin beds to ensure that no child has to sleep on the floor. A major focus of this partnership is supplying new beds to children in local communities as well as rebuilding and furnishing bunks for the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville.
Project Goals and Activities
- Building Bunks: Lions club volunteers join community build days to cut, sand, stain, and assemble stackable twin and bunk beds.
- Supporting Texas Lions Camp: Large-scale builds (such as those with District 2-X1 and the Robinson Area Lions) have dedicated a significant portion—such as 75 out of 100 beds—to update sleeping quarters at the Texas Lions Camp.
- Serving Local Kids: The remaining beds and full bedding sets (mattresses, pillows, and sheets) are distributed directly to local children in need through chapters like SHP Waco, Austin, and San Antonio.
